ABOUT US

We Were Looking for Something Small

During the unusual days of 2020, working from home gave us the freedom to imagine spending our summers somewhere cooler. We began looking for a small place in the Adirondacks—a simple escape where we could enjoy the mountains and get away from the Texas heat.

Then we found Franklin Manor.

It was anything but small.

We fell in love with the house, its remarkable history, the village of Saranac Lake, and the beauty of the Adirondacks surrounding it. What began as a search for a summer escape became something we never expected: a historic manor, a bed & breakfast, and a dream worth falling in love with.

A Labor of Love

Falling in love with Franklin Manor was the easy part. Caring for a house of this age, size, and history is an ongoing adventure.

We believe the things that make the manor special are worth preserving—the original woodwork, old fireplaces, gracious rooms, broad porches, and the details that carry more than a century of stories. At the same time, we want Franklin Manor to feel comfortable and welcoming, not like a museum.

So our work here is never really finished. Room by room and detail by detail, we continue to restore, refresh, and thoughtfully shape the manor while respecting the character that made us fall in love with it in the first place.

We aren't trying to make Franklin Manor new. We're trying to care for what makes it irreplaceable.

Our Approach to Hospitality

We want Franklin Manor to feel less like a place you're simply staying and more like a place you're genuinely glad to come home to.

A WARM WELCOME

Hospitality doesn't need to be complicated. A beautiful room, a comfortable place to settle in, thoughtful details, and a genuine welcome can make all the difference.

ROOM TO BREATHE

We want you to feel at home here. Find a chair on the porch, curl up in the library, linger over coffee, or simply enjoy a little quiet after a day in the Adirondacks.

THE LITTLE THINGS

We believe the details matter—from the way a room feels when you arrive to the breakfast waiting downstairs on a quiet morning. They're small things, but they're often what make a stay memorable.

Come as our guest. Leave feeling like Franklin Manor was a little bit yours, too.

Our Chapter in a Much Longer Story

Franklin Manor was here long before us.

Since 1896, this house has been a private home, a summer retreat, a Carmelite monastery, and once again a home before opening its doors to travelers.

We're simply part of its continuing story.

Our hope is to care for Franklin Manor well, preserve the character that generations before us left behind, and give the people who pass through its doors a chance to experience something special here.

Someday, another chapter will follow ours. Until then, we're grateful to call this remarkable old house home—and even more grateful for the opportunity to share it.
